The grand opening exhibition of MAT, Nagoya with a guest curator Shihoko Iida consists of two parts. While Peter Fischli / David Weiss’ masterpiece The Way Things Go (1986-87) was exhibited throughout the exhibition period, Ofuna Flower Center (2011- ) by Yuko Mohri which the artist has worked on from time to time previously was exhibited in the first part. For the second part, Mohri stayed in Nagoya for a half year doing some research to work on the new pieces Pleated images and fort-da in response to The Way Things Go.
Mohri, who has started her career as an artist since her exhibition held at artport* in 2003, worked on the new piece using the network she built among the Tokai region back then, together with a new team and methods she ran across this time. We MAT, Nagoya also realized the significance to support artists by such project with several phases that enables them to work on aspiring new works. It also should be noted that both works by Fischli / Weiss and Mohri that show sequences of movements matched perfectly with the grand opening exhibition, as the sequence evokes the beginning of MAT, Nagoya to be developed and spread out over time.

Artport was a project to utilize former-warehouses in the East area of Port of Nagoya Garden Wharf as a studio for local residents and artists from 1999 to 2003.
