Fly me to the AOMORI

Exhibitor artists

Ryusuke Ito, Tohl Narita

Report

“Fly me to the AOMORI” an exhibition on the subject of Aomori produced by Aomori Museum of Art, was held simultaneously at multiple venues in Nagoya City including Aichi Arts Center. At Botão Gallery, Realistic Virtuality (Flying Giant) (2003), an installation by Ryusuke Ito, who lives and works in Sapporo, composed of a miniature set for special effects and a projected image, and bronze sculptures and concept drawings by Tohl Narita from Aomori, who designed the heroes and monsters for ULTARAMAN series, were exhibited. The gallery’s advantageous location of a residential area and readily accessible icons of ULTARAMAN and monsters looking out the gallery’s windows attracted passersby and provided motivations to look at wider range of art. During the exhibition, many viewers visited the port area for the first time for a “stamp rally” to collect stamps at each venue. The exhibition provided an opportunity for interregional exchange between Aomori and Nagoya.
