Daniel Göttin
Eiji Watanabe, Minatomachi Art Table, Nagoya [MAT, Nagoya]
A solo exhibition by Swiss artist Daniel Göttin was held.
Göttin inspected the gallery at the exhibition’s planning stage to know the space’s structure including the ceiling height, beam position, and distortion of the building, and created an installation with familiar materials available at the do-it-yourself stores such as adhesive tapes and cardboards.
The 2 floors of the gallery were used for the first time for Göttin’s exhibition. The exhibition asked a question on how the works on the 1st and 2nd floors reflect each other, and as the exhibition title “DOUBLE VIEW” indicated, it embraced “the eyes that capture the building and the space” and “the eyes that are casted on the building.” Through the use of reflective aluminum tapes, the installation altered its appearance by changing viewpoints of the viewers walking around the gallery and changing angle of sunlight streaming from the windows.
Concurrently with Göttin’s exhibition, a solo exhibition by Gerda Meise, who runs a gallery space with Göttin in Basel, Switzerland, was held at Star Gallery in the underground mall in Fushimi, Nagoya.
